ellingtonia quintet – from harlem and the far east

Leitrim based jazz multi-instrumentalist Cathal Roche returns to the local stage with a new group celebrating the music of the great jazz bandleader Duke Ellington.

‘Down with Jazz?’

Ellingtonia reintroduces the compositions of ‘The Duke’ derived from his travels in the far east. Darragh O’Kelly (keys), Colm O’Hara (trombone) and Conor Murray (drums), all long time collaborators of Cathal’s through Dublin City’s legendary Dirty Jazz Club, join Cathal and fellow Leitrim musician Udo Grunwalde (bass) in a musical voyage penned by jazz’s most prolific composer and bandleader.

Blue Gardenia are a jazz/blues cover band that brings alive the best of the jazz era. Featuring classic songs as performed by Billie Holiday, Etta James, Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald through to contemporary artists such as Melody Gardot and Amy Winehouse.
